A popular, consistent, good quality beach break that breaks over sand and rock. The beach is a black sand volcanic beach. On a big south or southwest swell this break starts to barrel nicely. The wave generally works best in a north east wind.

The wave starts working in a small swell but can hold upto 2m+. Tides are not a problem as this wave will work on any tide.

This surf spot has been called the surfing equivalent of a skate park. ‘Maccas’ endless perfection grinding mechanically across the reef will make any surfer think they can turn pro.

The best conditions to surf this spot are: mid tide, from 2 foot to 8 foot in an east to south east wind

Macaronis was once an empty wave that travelling surfers would die for. With the increasingly popularity of surf charters it is seeing an increasingly busy line-up.

13 August, 2008 : - - Lacanau — The second day of the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS) 6-Star Sooruz Lacanau Pro witnessed some tough action today with Heats 1 to 20 of Round 2 being completed in messy solid four to six foot (1.2 to 2 meter) waves at Lacanau. The challenging conditions made it hard for competitors to post big scores but fourty men still managed to secure a ticket for Round 3 and join the event top seeds starting tomorrow.
